Axiom Trade has become one of the busiest places on Solana, and a large share of the people using it arrived in the last few months through a friend, a group chat or a chart screenshot. The searches that follow are the ones you would expect: whether it is legitimate, whether the wallet is yours, and whether the money sitting in it is safe. Those are three separate questions with three different answers.

We make hardware wallets, so we have an interest in where you keep your coins. The sections below try to be accurate about what Axiom does, including the part where the custody model is better than sceptics assume.

Where the keys sit

Start with the good news, because it is the part that gets misreported. Axiom's wallet is non-custodial. Sign up with an email address or a Google account and the platform provisions a wallet for you through Turnkey, a key-management provider, and the recovery phrase for that wallet is exportable from the settings screen whenever you want it. Axiom's own documentation suggests importing those words into Phantom, Rabby or Solflare so you keep access if the platform ever goes offline.

That is a reasonable design, and it means the usual exchange failure story does not apply here. Nobody at Axiom can freeze your balance, and an insolvency would not turn your holdings into a claim in a bankruptcy queue. If you take one thing from this article, let it be that exporting those twelve words takes under a minute and that almost nobody does it.

The trust you are extending is narrower and worth naming. Turnkey sits in the chain as a third party, the wallet was generated by infrastructure you did not choose, and the keys live in software on whatever device you trade from. That is a hot wallet in every sense that matters for risk.

What the platform knows about you

Custody is one question and data is another, and the second one produced the uncomfortable story of 2026. In February, CoinDesk reported allegations from the pseudonymous investigator ZachXBT that an Axiom employee had been running insider trades off information the platform held about its users.

What makes it instructive is the detail in DL News' account. The investigation named Broox Bauer, who handled business development, and alleged that he and several associates used Axiom's internal tools to look up customer wallets and follow their activity, with screenshots from April and August 2025 showing private wallet data tied to named traders, and a shared spreadsheet compiling addresses of well-known accounts. According to that reporting the behaviour ran for more than ten months. Axiom responded that it was shocked and disappointed, removed access to the systems involved, and said it would keep investigating and hold those responsible to account.

Nothing in that story involves anyone taking a private key. It is a reminder that a platform which cannot spend your money can still watch it, and that the link between your identity and your addresses is worth something to people who have it.

The lookalikes are the daily risk

For most users the likeliest way to lose money here has nothing to do with the company at all. A counterfeit Axiom mobile app has been running for months, and reporting puts it at more than 207 victims and over 147,000 USD taken across a five-month window, while the platform itself was never breached. Phishing domains built on variations of the name have been flagged by security vendors as well.

The September campaign is the one to recognise on sight. Pages dressed up as a Cloudflare verification screen have been targeting meme coin traders, asking the visitor to run a command or paste a script to prove they are human, and one trader reported losing roughly 600,000 USD after doing it. A verification check never needs you to run anything. Close the tab.

Download only from links you reached through the site you typed yourself, and treat a search advertisement for a trading app as hostile until proven otherwise.

Moving profits out, and where the backup lives

Here is the practical frame. A wallet you sign dozens of transactions from, connected to contracts deployed by strangers an hour earlier, is a working account, and working accounts should hold what you are prepared to lose. The place for a position you intend to keep is hardware that does not touch a browser.

Ryder One supports Solana, and the private key is generated inside an EAL6+ certified Infineon secure element and never leaves it. Every transaction is rendered on the 1.6-inch AMOLED touchscreen on the device, receive addresses can be checked there before you hand one out, and the confirm button is wired straight to the chip so nothing signs without a press. Communication is NFC only, with no USB data path and no wireless radio listening between taps.

Then there is the backup, which is where most of this ends badly. Exported words sitting in a notes app or a screenshot are one compromised laptop away from being someone else's, and the standard upgrades each carry a catch: paper burns and floods, while a steel plate survives both and still leaves your entire balance depending on one object staying unfound for twenty years. TapSafe Recovery splits recovery instead of hardening one copy of it, with a Recovery Tag holding 50%, your paired phone holding 50% stored encrypted in your iCloud or Google Drive rather than on the handset, and optional Recovery Contacts holding 25% each while seeing nothing about your wallet. Built on our own implementation of Shamir's Secret Sharing, it means no single item is enough by itself. The BIP-39 seed phrase remains on the device as a last resort.

So is Axiom Trade safe

As a venue, it works, the custody model is sound, and the export path means you are never locked in. As a company, it had a bad year on internal controls, and its answer was to cut off access and investigate, which is the right response and also an admission that the access existed.

The honest summary is that Axiom is a reasonable place to trade and a poor place to hold. Export your recovery words today, keep the trading balance at a size that would annoy rather than wreck you, and move anything you plan to still own in 2027 onto hardware where a browser cannot reach it.
