Looking at self-custodial solutions for your crypto? Welcome to the ultimate guide for Ryder One.
We built Ryder One from a place of passion with the belief that simplicity was key. We didn't want a wallet that would fuel anxiety, and we knew Ryder One had to be built for humans, with the understanding that humans make mistakes. Now let's get to the features that you need to know about Ryder One.
Our team worked with award-winning designer and Japan-based artist, Ray Horacek to design Ryder One. In his words, he wanted to explore the contrasts of the world we live in, balancing polar edges: bridging the gap between human and technology and encapsulating history and the present in one form factor.
With Ryder One, Ray's inspiration came from ancient rock forms, like geodes and amber: things that survived extreme conditions, heat, pressure, and trauma to create beauty. Like these forms, Ryder One was built to represent the unbreakable.
Julien, our CPO, worked closely with Ray for eight months of various clay iterations and design prototypes that made the Ryder One you see today.
Our team chose aluminum, glass, and polycarbonate as the main materials in order to have durability, ideal weight, and warmth. Yes, physical warmth, so you're comfortable holding your Ryder One.
In 2026, Ryder One won the Red Dot Product Design Award, one of the most respected design recognitions in the world. It's a signal that security hardware doesn't have to feel intimidating. It can be beautiful, intuitive, and something you're proud to own.
Blind signing has been a hot topic in self-custody, especially as of Q4 2025. Although this is coming up as a trend, we can't see it lasting too long. The idea is cool, until someone accidentally adds an extra 0 to a transaction.
That's why Ryder One has a 1.6 inch AMOLED touch display, meaning that you never have to sign a blind transaction or use a poor quality screen again. The device has an infinity edge design, which actually helped make the Ryder One slimmer during production with as much durability. Trust us when we say a lot of thought went into this.
The button is directly linked to the secure element to ensure that you are the only one who can sign any transaction. The LEDs guide you through processes and signal any faults along the way.
Ryder One has been given an IP67 rating, meaning it's dust-proof and water-resistant. In the worst case scenarios, your assets are going to be safe for the long run.
The majority of crypto hardware wallets available today require a connection to process transactions. Whether through WiFi, Bluetooth, or cables, this leaves opportunities for vulnerabilities.
Ryder One uses NFC as its only communication method. NFC has a very short range, it's easy to use, familiar, and simple. It gives you the tap-to-pay experience you already know from Visa PayWave and Apple Pay, while keeping Ryder One free from persistent connections that could expose it to remote attacks. There is no Bluetooth radio, no USB data transfer, and no WiFi. The only way to interact with Ryder One is to physically tap it.
This also means every transaction is verified on the device itself. What you see on the screen is what you're signing. That's what makes TapSafe possible.
Ryder One was made with the goal to make wallet recovery simple, safer, flexible, and more resilient.
Ryder One uses TapSafe Technology. This is a custom Shamir's Secret Sharing (SSS) implementation built by our team. SSS is a tried and tested technology that has been around for decades and is used by top security agencies, organizations, and companies worldwide. In the case of TapSafe Recovery, this means that your wallet recovery and backup are split into pieces.
Think of it like a puzzle or a pie. In order to create a full pie, you need a certain number of pieces to come together, and that's the basis of how Ryder One works. Using Recovery Tags, Recovery Contacts, and your phone backup, you choose how you want to store your backup.
Recovery Tags are NFC tags that hold 50% of your wallet recovery. They are designed for durability and long life and are IP69K rated, surviving high-pressure water jets, dust, and extreme temperatures.
Recovery Contacts let you distribute recovery pieces across trusted people. Each contact holds only a 25% portion of your wallet backup. These contacts don't have access to or information about your wallet and are completely optional. Setup is done in person via NFC. Once stored, it syncs to your contact's iCloud or Google Drive, so it's safe even if they replace their phone.
Your paired phone establishes a secure connection with Ryder One during setup and holds 50% of your wallet recovery, stored in your iCloud (iOS) or Google Drive (Android).
TapSafe means you're not forced to depend on your seed phrase in day-to-day use. But it's always accessible on-device as a last resort. And because Ryder One uses the BIP-39 standard, your wallet is fully compatible with other hardware and software wallets. You are never locked to Ryder hardware.

When you unbox your brand new Ryder One, you'll find everything you need to kickstart your journey to self-custody:
Instead of the usual cards to write down and store your seed phrase, you'll find one Recovery Tag. This tag holds 50% of your wallet backup so you don't have to write down, store, and memorize your seed phrase. You can pick up an additional 2-Pack Recovery Tag at any time.
The setup takes under 60 seconds and happens during onboarding on your Ryder One.
Step 1: Pair your phone
Open the Ryder App and tap your phone on your Ryder One. This stores the first encrypted piece of your backup in your iCloud or Google Drive, not on your device, so losing your phone doesn't mean losing this backup.
Step 2: Tap your Recovery Tag
Hold your Recovery Tag against the back of your Ryder One. The tag stores the second encrypted piece. That's your physical backup: battery-free, waterproof, and ready whenever you need it.
Step 3: Tap your phone to confirm
Tag and phone together equal 100% of your recovery. Neither piece works on its own. If someone finds your tag, they can't do anything with it.
That's it. 3 steps in under 60 seconds, and you have a fully backed up crypto hardware wallet. You can strengthen your recovery further by adding additional Recovery Tags or Recovery Contacts at any time.
Already have a wallet? You don't have to start from scratch. Ryder One lets you import your existing 12- or 24-word seed phrase directly into the device. Once imported, you can layer TapSafe backups on top: Recovery Tags, Recovery Contacts, and your paired phone all work with an imported wallet the same way they work with a new one.
Think of it as a seed phrase upgrade. Your existing wallet, now backed up the Ryder way.
You can buy crypto with a credit card directly inside the Ryder app, powered by MoonPay. No need to go through an exchange first and then transfer. Buy and hold, all in one place.
No more switching between apps to trade. You can now swap assets across chains directly from the Ryder app.
Ryder Swap finds cost-effective routes across supported networks so you get the best deal without leaving the app. No third-party DEX to connect, no extra steps. Pick your assets, confirm the transaction on your Ryder One, and you're done. Every swap is verified on-device before it goes anywhere.

Before this feature, confirming a receive address meant trusting what your phone screen showed you. Now you can verify it on Ryder One itself, where no app, browser extension, or malicious software can interfere.
Address-substitution attacks are real. An attacker replaces a copied address with their own during a paste. With address verification on Ryder One, the device is the source of truth. What you see on the screen is what you're receiving to.
Ryder One lets you save frequently used addresses directly on the device. Every saved address can be verified on-screen before you send, adding another layer of protection against copy-paste attacks.
Ryder One warns you if network fees are unusually high before you confirm a transaction. You'll never be caught off guard by a fee spike mid-send.
Ryder One shuffles the passcode keypad every time you unlock. With a fixed layout, someone watching over your shoulder can track your finger movements and guess your PIN. A shuffled keypad means the same PIN never looks the same twice. Small detail, big privacy win.
Ryder One supports Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, and a growing list of tokens including the top ERC-20 and SPL tokens.
Ryder One uses an EAL6+ certified secure element. EAL6+ is one of the highest security certifications available for hardware, used in passports, SIM cards, and high-security systems worldwide. Your private keys are generated and stored inside this chip. They never leave it.
Ryder One's firmware has been independently audited by Halborn, one of the most respected blockchain security firms in the industry. You can read the full audit report here.
Security isn't something we claim. It's something we prove.
We hope this answered all your questions. If it didn't, drop us a message across any platform and we'll get back to you. The future needs better tools, and Ryder One is our answer to that need. We hope you make it yours.
