After more than two years of building, testing, and refining, we finally shipped the first Ryder One units to our earliest supporters. This milestone marks a huge moment for us at Ryder, and more importantly, for the growing community choosing to take true ownership of their digital assets.
Our small but mighty team has completed the first batch of shipments, fulfilling every pre-order with thousands of users already onboard. Seeing the Ryder One in your hands and your reactions across social media made every late night worth it.
The Journey to Shipping Ryder One
Bringing the Ryder One to life took grit, iteration, and collaboration:
- 52,599 Slack messages
- 23 mechanical design revisions
- 394 Notion documents
- 103 internal memos
But the most rewarding part? Hearing directly from you guys, our community:

New Tech Means More FAQs
Following the launch, we received a wave of questions from our community. We’re here to set the record straight with transparency and simplicity.
Why Use a Hardware Wallet?
- Ownership: If you're not holding your keys, you don’t own your crypto.
- Security: Exchanges are convenient, but they control your assets. Hot wallets provide ownership but are exposed to malware and phishing.
- Peace of Mind: Hardware wallets store your private keys offline, in a secure element.
- Balance Is Key: Use exchanges for accessibility, but don’t store all your funds there. Use hardware wallets for your long-term or high-value holdings.
What About the Seed Phrase?
- We didn’t remove it. The seed phrase is still available on your Ryder One and can be viewed in settings.
- It’s important, but not the best default. Writing 24 words on paper doesn’t feel like progress. It’s prone to human error, theft, and damage.
- We believe there’s a better way to back up your wallet, and that’s where TapSafe comes in.
TapSafe: A Safer Backup Method
- TapSafe is our secure backup method, based on Shamir Secret Sharing.
- It breaks your backup into multiple shares, stored across recovery tags and your phone.
- During onboarding, just tap your Ryder One to your recovery tag and your phone. It’s just that simple.
- This eliminates the single point of failure that seed phrases create.
What Are Recovery Contacts?
- Recovery Contacts are an optional but powerful feature that fall under the TapSafe umbrella.
- Use a friend or family member’s smartphone by having them download the Ryder app and tap your Ryder One.
- If you lose both your phone and Recovery Tags, your Recovery Contacts can help you recover your lost or stolen wallet.
- Each contact holds only a portion of the recovery share. They can’t access your wallet or see your data.
- Add as many Recovery Tags and Contacts as you want.
Is the Ryder One Durable? (Yes.)
- The Ryder One is IP67-rated for dust and water resistance.
- “6”: Maximum protection from dust
- “7”: Can resist strong water pressure
- That means it’s sealed from dust and can handle brief submersion.
- A display ensures you verify every transaction through the amount and recipient on a trusted, offline device.
- Without a display, you rely on your phone, which isn’t secure enough for critical verification.
- It’s your last line of defense against phishing or malware. We built it to last, even in humid environments or long-term storage.
Is There a “Chinese Chip”?

- Our devices are assembled in China, not for cost, but for quality and speed. It's the global hub for top-tier electronics manufacturing.
- We’re open-sourcing both our software and hardware.
- Our chips:
- Secure Element: Infineon SLC 38 (Germany)
-
MCU: Apollo Blue from Ambiq (ultra-low power)
Why Include a Display?
-
How Do the AMOLED Screen and LEDs Help?
- Ryder goes above and beyond for security.
- We include a direct LED link to the secure element, adding a real-time hardware signal for added assurance.
- It’s a small detail with big security implications.
What’s Next?
After shipping, you’ve probably seen that we’ve been pushing updates left and right — from releasing Ryder OS 1.3.0 with Bitcoin support, recovery phrase reveal, and UI enhancements, to launching our partnership with MoonPay Commerce so you can buy Ryder One with crypto, and now adding full SPL support.
Our next update is even bigger. Arriving soon, we will add ERC-20 SPR token support and and swaps directly on Ryder One as part of our ongoing work to expand multi-chain support while keeping everything simple, fast, and safe.
Final Thoughts
There’s a lot of noise and misinformation out there. At Ryder, we believe in clear answers, secure ownership, and smarter defaults. We’re not saying we’re the best, but we’re building like we are.
If you're ready to truly own your crypto, Ryder is ready for you
